Talk, Read, Play

Talk, Read, Play logo

Talk, Read, Play is a website that provides you with information and resources on your child's developmental milestones, parenting tips, school readiness activities, as well as programs that offer you early intervention services, childcare, and recreational activities for your child from birth through age five. A online milestones guide in multiple languages is also available for you to download.

The Talk, Read, Play campaign is a reminder of the simple but sometimes overlooked steps that lead to a child’s healthy development:

  • Talking to a child from birth is one of the most important things that you can do to foster vocabulary, critical to the future development of reading and writing abilities
  • Reading with infants and toddlers helps them develop a longer attention span, a larger vocabulary, an eagerness to read, the ability to predict a storyline, and book-handling skills, all of which will help with learning to read later
  • Playing exposes children to essential social interactions that help to develop creativity, imagination, and problem-solving

Visit www.talkreadplay.org for more information and to download the milestones guide.

Talk, Read, Play is an initiative of Countdown to Kindergarten to raise awareness about the importance of the early years to school readiness, and to support families of young children in Boston through a public information campaign. It is part of the Boston citywide "Thrive in Five" framework.
